The work is based on a fragment of a Totem spinning wheel. A distinctive feature of Totem root
spinners is a shortened square blade crowning a thin carved foot. The front
side of these spinning wheels is decorated with three-edged notched carving. In the center of the composition is a solar
rosette framed by a dense geometric pattern of triangles and squares. Under the
towns are usually a lattice or round through holes in several rows.
The lower part of the blade is decorated with two large earrings facing the riser.
On the most archaic spinning wheels, in addition to the circles marking the course of the sun, three circles were carved:
in the center – a circle encircled by a wavy line with a square of land (arable land) in the middle; below –
a circle with curved lines emphasizing the dynamics of movement; in the upper part of the spinning wheel, right
above the circles marking the path of the sun across the sky, – a huge circle of many details
that created the effect of sparkling. All three elements – the earth, the sun and «white light» – are
components of the world picture.
